A Couple Of Questions

Last night, I was driving to a tutoring appointment listening to NPR. They were talking about polling numbers or reading from an eskimo's journal...I can't remember...when they took a break and read a list of their sponsors.

And WLVI is now sponsoring the news on WMUR.

Ok, that's all well and good. Go ahead, Mr. Ansin, if you're not going to support me by writing me paychecks, at least go ahead and make that tax-deductable contribution to some shows I enjoy on the radio. But, it seems like your advertising resources may be a little misguided.

Did you not buy the station and promise to create a newscast that's fast, young and hip? Do you think advertising on NPR will help draw in that young, hip audience?

Maybe, for you, NRP is young and hip. But I think that Alaskan eskimo would disagree.

(No haters, now. I love NPR!!)

Random Vent

To the person who made fun of me for saying "The Googles":

Yes, moron, I know that the site is called "Google." I don't need you to use condescending voice fluctuation to point that out to me. It's called keeping up with pop culture and knowing that adding "the" and pluralizing a singular noun is what the kids are doing.

Go read about it on The Internets.

Jelly Belly

There's a 2 pound bag of Jelly Belly beans at work.

I've eaten about a pound of those.

I love Jelly Belly beans.

I have a sick belly.

Back for more beans!

Negative Below

...and I thought Al Gore was right! Where's that global warming? 2 weeks ago, I was out reading in my backyard...today I'm bundled with a turtleneck!

I don't know if it's worse here or there:

It's brr-cold back home too!

A Plea For Needed Things

When I wrote this post, I really wanted to have a pick-ture to go along with it. But, I am at a location just less than two miles from where I need to be to make that happen..and so I write anyway...

I need help! I need wine corks!

I'm in the middle of making a new corkboard to sell on Etsy, but I'm short corks! So, here's what I need:

Any standard "real" corks (none of those fake, Australian plasticy-rubber corks, please!)

If you have some around the house, or just happen to open up a bottle, think of me! Save your corks! My crafts will thank you!

Nerd Alert!

It's no surprise I like things a bit nerdy. I live with the ultimate nerd. I sell nerd.notes. And now, I admit to the latest film fest in the Paladie-ni home.

The Star Wars Marathon.

This marathon courtesy of members of my family who sent Nick the DVDs for Christmas. The only appropriate thing to do was to watch the movies in order. Not the usual order (IV, V, VI, I, II, III), but chronologically. And you know what? It's a different story when you do it that way.

Observations:

* George Lucas created a story focusing on just one person -- Anakin Skywalker. Luke, Leia, Han, Yoda, Senator/Queen Amidala, etc... they are all there to help push the story of Anakin/Darth Vader. From start to finish, it is really his story. All this time, I felt that the original trilogy was Luke's story. It's not. And watching the movies chronologically really does change the emphasis.

* Isolation has not been good to Yoda. Episodes I-III, Yoda is wise. Episode V: Yoda is nutty. And in the new trilogy, George Lucas really should have used a Yoda puppet.

* I love Ewoks! They are so cute!! Ewoks make me smile!! I want an Ewok!

* Jabba the Hut gave me nightmares when I was 8..and at 28. He's just gross.

* Boba Fett is fun to say.

* Old special effects are much better and much more believable over new special effects.

* Lofty dialogue does not create a feeling of old world sophistication. It makes early episodes boring.

* How can Leia remember her mom when she died during childbirth?? LIES!!

* New Anakin at the end of Episode VI is not that bad, and quite appropriate for continuity..calm down Star Wars nerds!!!

* I blame Obi-Wan for part of the Darth Vader transformation. Lay off the kid, already! Criticizing him all the time is not constructive!

* Minus the gold bikini, does Leia ever where a bra??? Give the girls some support!

* Watching all 6 movies in a row can make one very special nerd very happy!

First Five Days

Today marks the beginning of my first 5 day stretch of work since before Thanksgiving. Can she do it?

If I hadn't been so new here I would have called out sick today..I feel gross.

Why couldn't nice rainy day have been yesterday when I was all bundled up in blankets on the couch watching "Wimbleton"? The fates mock yet again!
