Winter Wonderland
In two days, it will be Halloween...but outside, it looks more like we're two days from Christmas. October 29th: Snow is now falling on the city of Boston! Are you kidding me??? This year, unlike any other year before, I have been trying my hardest to embrace each season for its own individuality. It's become my Fall mantra. And this is how I am rewarded?
See, I hate Fall. Not for anything Fall did, I'm sure Fall is a lovely enough of a season on its own. My hatred comes from what Fall is a sign of..a sign of Winter, just around the corner. So, here I am, not dissing Fall and just keeping my mouth shut...and how am I thanked?? SNOW! Snow in October! Snow, 2 months before the first day of Winter! SNOW!!!! Fall, you dirty minx, what kind of sick trick is this?? I have been good! I have been kind to you! I went pumpkin picking and acorn hunting and sipped your delicious apple cider! What's next? A blizzard in November?
I'm going to give you another chance, Fall. I am not going to be mean, I will not scold. But don't make me regret this decision. Can you save the flakes, for just a little longer??
Arrogant Squirrel, Part Deux
You tease my cat, you scold me, now Arrogant Squirrel, you've gone too far! After an hour faithfully guarding his post at the back door, Taylor alerted me to an enemy intruder on the porch. And again, Arrogant Squirrel was feasting on items left on the back porch. On today's menu, our Halloween pumpkins! And more specifically, my Halloween pumpkin! And when I went out to the back porch, A.S. didn't even move until I was a few feet from him! Oh, he is brave...stupid and brave. Arrogant Squirrel, it is on!!!
Arrogant Squirrel
The residents of my home are now being tormented by a squirrel with an over-inflated idea of his self worth. For weeks now, he's been helping himself to the seeds inside our flower pots. And now, I think he's having fun just teasing my poor cat Taylor...running across the porch back and forth like "Look at me! I'm outside and you're not! You can't get me!! HAHAHAHA!!" But now, it's gone too far! I was walking out to my car this morning, when Arrogant Squirrel went tearing from the porch, to a nearby tree. (As he should, I can be menacing.) But then this squirrel had the nerve to tell me off! From his perch high in a tree, he started chirping at me! At first, I wasn't sure it was me he was yelling at..but I looked right at him...staring me down with his black beady eyes! Oh, Arrogant Squirrel, you have made an enemy in me.
Ah...Starbucks!
Oh, Starbucks! You've done it again! Every few years coming up with a new way to bring a bit of happiness to the time of the year I dread the most.. First, you wowwed me with the double team of Gingerbread and Eggnog Latte. Then, tempting my tastebuds with the oh so delish Toffee Nut Latte.. But now, oh Starbucks, you've really outdone yourself! The Maple Latte is the stuff of dreams! Hot coffee, warm milk, and a spritz of maple syrup! It's Fall in a Cup, I tell you! My recommendation, try it non-fat, with the whipped cream on top (they add some extra maple syrup that way, just for good measure!). Best enjoyed all snug and warm somewhere with the Sunday paper. Cheers!
The best fun one dollar can buy
Honestly, could there be any more entertainment value for a buck than playing the lottery? For the past few weeks, everyone I work with has been suffering from a wicked case of lotto fever. And why not? It's too much fun! One dollar bought us hours of talk about just what we'd do with the big prize. No shock that we didn't win the money, but in case you were wondering, here's how I've already planned to spend the cash:
*Millions to both my Mom and sis
*An undisclosed amount to those in the inner circle
*A rockin' house near MIT so Nick can finish his thesis in peace
*New cars!!!
*A Christmas vacation somewhere warm
*My very own bookstore!
*Vacation homes in Arizona, Oregon and Vermont
*Segway scooters for everyone!
*All the yarn and beads I can handle
*An endless supply of McMenamins Ruby Ale
Oh, so fun to dream...Thank you Mr. Washington!
Welcome!
