Summer of Fun 2.0: Electric Boogaloo
It was a year ago when I declared the summer of 2005 was going to be the Summer of Fun. And you know, it wasn't bad. There was my first trip to NYC, and my umpteenth trip to Sin City... There was also a fire, flood season and dozens of bug bites.
So, the researchers here have been working for months to bring you the new and improved upgrade of the Summer of Fun. I think you will like it.
Here's what's on deck:
* Beach Trips
* Backyard battles for the 2 good lawnchairs next to my Garden of Fire
* Wandering the streets of Boston, now that the students are all gone!
* More trips to Spike's and the Sunset for 100s of beers
* Big Texas hair, big Oregon beerfests, and big names in tennis in the city that never sleeps
* Playing at the park
* A Battle Royale in the pod (with love!) for time off September 8th
* Making pretty things for my shop
* 4 words: Snakes on a Plane!!!!

If I could be any character, from any movie, I would want so desperately to be Kathleen Kelly.
She's honest. She's thoughtful. She owns a bookstore and believes in the written word and how it can change your life. She understands the importance of being personal. She knows how to slow down. She works at being brave and fighting for what is important. She loves bouquets of sharpened pencils. She has the sweetest little apartment in New York. She loves her morning latte. She appreciates how a series of little nothings can add up to something.

I'm finalizing summer vacation plans, and realized I'm about to add another state to my "state's visited" map!

Not bad..those big west coast states sure make it look like I've covered a lot of ground! 25 states! And in 2 months (if work is willing), I'll get to make red the biggest state in the lower 48! Don't mess!

Sunday's Due
There are lots of good things about having my strange work schedule. I can go shopping without crowds. I don't havet to fight the commute. And, I can enjoy Sunday without that looming dread of Monday morning!
Oh, Beautiful! Relaxing! Peaceful Sunday morning! Is there anything better than a sunny morning, a cup of nonfat no-whip mocha and the Sunday Paper? You're right, there isn't.

And in other news, I took my first road trip of the season! The destination: the adorable town of Northampton in Western Mass. All good things must be west, because it's been awhile since I've felt so at home in an area. And the drizzle and low cloud cover just added to the charm. Yummy food, cute shops, lovely green rolling hills nearby...super cute!!
Oh, and an Etsy update..still no sells, but I am hopeful!! If you have friends of family in need of something I can help them with, send them my way! (Shameless plug!)

The Great Etsy Experiment
I've been making things for eons.
Well, maybe not eons. But you get the point. Anyway, I like to make things. I like to think I make pretty things. Now, the public will decide if I'm right. Why? Wait for it....
I launched my Etsy store tonight!!!What's Etsy, you ask? It's a site where people can post the lovely things they make in hopes someone thinks those things are worth owning. So far, I've got 2 things up on the site. But soon, oh so soon, I hope to have more.
So, this really isn't a plea for you, my friend, to buy my things. I'm just hoping to get the good word out there in hopes my lovely pieces will find happy new homes.

I had a hard time falling asleep last night..I was up until past 3am. So, when 7am rolled around, and outside I heard a roar that reminded me of war scenes in movies, I knew it was going to be a rough day.
I looked to the sky, searching for the signs of the Apocalypse. Nothing. Finally, I found the offender...landscapers!!! Landscapers in my yard! Landscapers using riding mowers and those blower sweepers!!! Are you kidding me?
7 am?!?!? Please tell me I am not being overly sensative reacting to this attack on my sleep!!
WTF?!?!? So cranky!!
Highs and Lows
What a weird week. Want to know why?
* The weather goes from Oregon Winter, to lovely spring...all in the matter of days. It's my first skirt day of the year!!
* My house is getting very lonely...
* My missing sewing kit, no longer missing!!! Weeks of insane searching now finished, finally!
* I'm trying to close one chapter of my life, and I am struggling with my feelings about it
* I got the best compliment ever at work this week! That Swifty is a gem...
* My list of tutor kids has dwindled to two..what will I do with all that extra time?
* I've decided what I want to do for my birthday... Can you feel another road trip coming on??? I can!!
* Everyone is having fun at home without me! :( Powell's, CPR, how much more can one girl take?!
* My lettuce plants are grow, grow, growing! Soon, I'll be able to have my own home grown salad!!
* I'm losing flowers on my orchid
* My house is getting cleaner..
* I miss my mess-maker
* I had the best caffeine high earlier...
* I'm now crashing hard..losing motivation..ugh.
Al, All Alone
She sings, "All.....by.....myself..... Don't wanna be...." And pictures the opening credits to Bridget Jones's Diary, with a depressed Renee Zellweger sitting in a cluttered room, filled with plates of smoldering cigarettes, empty wine bottles and other displays of human filth...and I am thankful that it isn't a mirror image.
But for the next week, it will be me...sort of. I'm left all alone, while Nick returns to Oregon. Instead of filth, I'll have a week alone to straighten up things. I'll have plenty of time to catch up on my reading. I can sleep with my kitties. That is, if I can fall asleep!
I haven't been more than just a short car ride away from Nick in 3 and a half years...and while I know I've been lucky not to have had a major distance between the two of us, it doesn't make this first one any easier.
My only solace? The hopes of Oregon presents of Burger Spread (our current 2 jars are almost empty!) and any other treasures.
And nothing hurts more than to know Nick will likely return from Oregon with a tan while I freeze my way through a New England Spring. (You want to know what the dead of winter in the Pac NW feels like? Step outside.) And, hun, don't forget about me when you're lost in the shelves at Powell's..so jealous....
